Should I get my new ceiling artexed?

Question:Hi, I recently had half of my living room ceiling replaced and then the builder skimmed over the whole ceiling. Should I now get my ceiling artexed again or leave it smooth?

Answers:
I have had both types, and I would say smooth!

Leave it, as artex gets older it gets scruffier and it's a pig to get off. Even painting it takes a lot longer.
if you are recreating an 80's style lounge, go for it. if not, then just leave it smooth.
Leave it smooth, it would be more effort to get it smooth again if you wanted to. Also you won't be able to see any dangerous cracks that couls appear.
no artex is the last thing you want.you will never get rid of it if you want a change.try lining it with 1200grade lining paper.you can then paint it or later on you can paper over the lining paper.you have a few choices .but please don't artex.I'm a decorator and the only way you can really remove artex is by getting it re plastered.costing even more.
No leave it smooth. Not only is it dated it is also makes the ceiling feel lower. You can either paint over it-after using primer- with a light colour, or you can use a light weight lining paper, then paint over it.
i would definitly leave it flat. i am a plasterer and alot of my work is getting rid of this stuff. Artex is sooo 80s
Artex brings down price of property so no
No is the answer to the artex question :-)...Instead, spend that money on some quality coving, and a classy plaster centre rose (NOT fancy) for your nice ceiling light...uncomplicated.
No its horrible. It's on my ceiling's (previous tenant) and i HATE it, plus its too much of an effort to paint.
Artex got the "Thumbs-down " in trhe 20th centuary for two reasons, it used to contain asbestos, but secondly it was " so 20th centuary"
Please don't. It is so dated and a pig to get rid of.
as you have probably noticed from all answers artex has had its day plaster rules good luck
Don't artex it. It's way out of fashion. It's all clean lines and minimalistic looks now, artexing just bring the ceiling "down" and has a "heavy" look about it.
