Siding / insulation question?
Question:We're shopping for siding; however, we live in an old farmhouse and the front of the house is not well insulated. (We get a LOT of high winds, so our living room is like an icebox in the winter months!) We do have blown in insulation, but is there some type of insulation the contractor could install under the siding that would help?
Answers:
They can literally wrap the house in this plastic sheeting before putting on the siding, that will cut down on the drafts coming through.
Yea, my parents just did theirs and it works great. The insulation is in sheets. The look like pink pieces of drywall but are very light. The contractors can put it under the siding. It is very easy to work with and works very well.
Ask your contractor for the fan-fold insulation. Its only 1/4-1/2 thick but it helps alot. Your house should have already had housewrap on it back when it was built, even though its an old farmhouse. I live in an old farmhouse too and the fanfold is easy to install over your existing wood siding and it gives the vinyl siding a good smooth surface to nail to.
they could wrap it with what they call tyvek orthey can use a half inch backer which is foam in 2x8 sheets behind siding
