Laminate floors?

Question:We just moved in to a home and the owner had just had laminate floors installed, how do you care for them??
They seem like they will scratch easy, is there a polish you can put on them? It is trafficmaster type laminate. I have no clue! The guy at Lowes sold me a cleaner but said there are things that you do NOT want to put on there.any help will be welcomed!
They are not glossy, matte finish.
If you have a question that I can answer that would help you be more exact please email me! I haven't even got really anything in the room, and it is off limits to the kids!

Answers:
I am a certified laminate installer. First do not wax that floor! It's not linoleum or vinyl. It will not look good. Second I have laminate floors in my house and the swiffer wet jet works great. Laminate is very strong I have an 80lb dog and two kids and when I run the wet jet over it it looks brand new. I would suggest getting self stick felt pads for chairs and tables, repetitious motion will eventually wear into the floor. Do not wash that floor with large amounts of water. water on the top is fine its the water that gets under the floor that will destroy it.

Laminate floors are pretty tough. They'll stand up to most normal things. Stick with things which say they are safe for laminate floors and you'll be okay. The only thing you really need to watch out for are sharp or really hard things being dragged across it.
Laminate floors are usually pretty tough. If they are not wax free, then wax them a couple of times. They have non wax hard coatings for non wax floors that you can get at most groceries. Area rug and or coasters should be used under table and chair legs.
We installed laminate floors in our last home and we lived on them for 3 years and they looked nice; however, there is one thing that you can not do. Do not use any other products other than the one at Lowes. I know everyone will say that it is ok to use, ie. swifter floors, but that is for real wood, not laminate. My floors ended up with an impossible film on them. It was hard to clean. The best thing that worked for me was a type of mop from Lowes, a bottle with water in it and it cleaned up really nice. The mop was a yellow handle, with a terry cloth base, and you can buy replacement cloths. It is large so it doesn't leave streaks. I let my 2 kids, dog and messy hubby on the floor and they kept well other than the cleaner problem, they hold up well. You may want to put the little felt pieces that can stick to the bottom of your furniture so you don't scratch the floor. All of our furniture had it on them. You can buy those at lowes too. It is difficult to replace one piece to you want to aviod deep hard scratches, that come from sliding heavy furniture, but with the felt underneath it will keep it from happening. I am sure that you will love your floors and I always think they are so pretty.
laminate floors are precious and needs protection from every day traffic and furnishings. Go to your local floor store/ building supplier and ask for a sealer/wax especially for laminate floors.
Apply as directed to the manufacture of the product you purchase. You can take additional precautions by using coasters to move heavy objects across the floor and it be wise to set under stationary furnishings as well.
Enjoy your floor!
I just mop(squeed out very well) with water and a little washing up liuid in it then thoroughly dry with a clean dry mop.works fine.
