So if you've never painted a room before...?

Question:...where do you start?
Obviously, we have a million ideas about the colors in the rooms. But we have a limited budget.
What would be a good paint (lifetime warranty), and how in the world, do we find out prices since no one seems to list them online?
Also, how much paint does a 22'X 16' room need?
I am so confused about paint brands, gallons, primers, and all that jargon that my head is hurting.
I think the foremost criterion is MONEY, BUDGET!
Anyone with ideas and suggestions.please?

Answers:
You have about 352 sq. ft. of room to paint. The paint can will tell you how much coverage you can get from the can. You may need 1 or 2 coats. According to how much of a drastic color change you are making. Go to Lowes.com. They have a color wheel that you can paint rooms on the internet with that color that you choose. As for quality of paint. We build houses for a living. We do not use an expensive paint. How much can go wrong with paint. Sure, some are easier to apply and the texture may be better, but I'd say just a medium priced would do you. Say, 15-20 dollars a gallon. I did not count the ceiling being painted. If you are doing it, it will be more square footage/

First of all the area you need to cover is about 1000 square feet (actually 960 sq ft-- walls and ceiling) On average you will egt about 400 sq ft/gallon of coverage altho that will vary (downwards) depending on the type of paint you choose. It will be stated on the can what the coverage is.
Second, you can get cheap paint at less than 10 bucks a gallon but you get what you pay for and probably will need to put on 2 coats to cover.
A good can of paint will run about 20 dollars a gallon.
If you've never painted before go online to any DIY site (google for diy sites) and they will have some good info.
Good luck
OK hear goes 16 x22 take your 16 x2=32 now take your 22 x 2 = 44 + 32=76 that is your parameter now assuming you have an 8 ft ceiling height you have 76 x 8 = 608 wall sq ft. now hears your ceiling sq ft 16x22= 352 you will get 350 - 400 square ft. per gallon if you walls are in good shape and painted previously with latex paint just repaint with latex and you should be fine
