What is the best way to go about painting a white room deep red?
Question:I used a primer called gripper gray and it didn't work as well as I had hoped. The gray color was supposed to help make the red look as true as possible with no pink. Instead...it looks like crap.
Answers:
You must tint your primer to a gray color. PINK AND WHITE WILL NOT WORK. You should get a good primer either by Behr or Valsper. Do NOT get Kilz because kilz can not be tinted. Pick up a gallon of white paint that can be tinited-it should not be a base. I would highly suggest the Bin/Zinsser-1-2-3 Primer, it works the best. Have them add 3Y of 101 to the paint. The paint specialist should know exactly what that means. 3Y is the amount and 101 stands for black. After you let the primer dry go ahead and paint over it and this will stop the bleeding of the white in the backround and result in less coats of paint. Good Luck.
You need to get a good white primer and have them tint in with the red, then apply 2 coats of your finish paint
I decided to paint one wall red in my diningroom. I used the gray primer and it still took 3 coats of paint. Just keep painting and it will get there.
You should have used a pink primer. then of course a lot of coats of red..
Good luck!
This might sound nuts, but, you need to use a pink first before you use the deep red. I painted a room cranberry and I used the primer that the paint called for. It took 6 coats to cover and look okay. I talked to a professional and that is when he said to use a pink first. The next time I did it turned out great.
It takes a lot of patience and about 3 coats of red to cover.
I did it once and decided never again. After the 2nd coat I wish a different color had been selected.
