Hi Laurie,

Humidity will always play a role in the performance of a paint product whether applied inside or outside. Since you're painting a bedroom, I'm gonna assume you're using latex paint. High humidity may affect the latex paint's ability to flow and level properly - the latex product may "drag" when applied by brush or roll and appear to be thick, viscous and sticky. The finish products ability to cure* may be compromised and result in a finish that is softer than it should be, more prone to staining (less washable), have poor adhesion and be difficult to touch-up (discolors) even when using paint out of the same can.

To combat this problem eliminate, or minimize the humidity during application and initial cure. Run an air-conditioner, a de-humidifier or simply a room fan (on low) to keep air circulating so that the water and solvents within the latex paint may evaporate properly. There are additives you can add to latex paints to slow down the drying time (for application during periods of high humidity), but from a manufacturer's perspective, it's better for the paint film to alter the environment than to alter the paint...before adding anything to your paint, I suggest talking to your local independent paint dealer for his/her recommendation (big boxes like Lowes and Home Depot may have the products you need, but rarely do they have the experienced personnel who can walk you through a situation to a successful conclusion).

* Cure = dry completely - the point at which the film has achieved it's maximum hardness and adhesion...with latex this is usually anywhere from 5 - 45 days even though it'll be dry to touch and recoat within just several minutes.

Other than heat and humidity, outside weather will have no effect on painting inside...If it does however, you may have much bigger problems than what a coat of paint can correct.

I hope this info is more helpful than confusing...Good luck on your project.

Ric

Yes it will. It will take a lot longer for it to dry between coats. Add at least an extra 30 minutes between coats.
It will take longer to dry, so if you have the option of closing the windows and turning on the air conditioning (don't know the temperature there), you'll be fine.
