How much should I charge to paint a 4000 sq foot interior house?

Question:It has half the downstairs with cathedral ceilings and very little patch work will be needed. Nothing fancy, just a new paint color being done.

Answers:
I would depend also if you needed to use Killz on the walls to cover up dark colored walls, plus, if the walls needed to be patched with drywall mud, then you would half to patch, mud, sand and then paint, or if it had vinyl wall coverings that needed to be removed and then have walls re prepped. Also depends on if you or the customer is going to pay for the paint and the killz. If you are paying for materials and doing the painting, I would take the cost of the materials then times that by two and if patching is involved like you said add 250.00 additionally to your total.
That's what my x husband did, he renovated hotels.

the tall ceilings are killer. I would charge by the square foot. more for the vaulted ceiling area. Call some people out of the paper and get a general quote. figure out your experience compared to theirs and charge the whole job per square foot. That should include all the prep work, masking, drop cloths etc. Charge more for touch ups, especially after they move furniture in.

I used to help my former husband, a house painter. Hope that helps!
A fare price would be $4000. This would include all prep, paint and clean-up. If moving furniture then you should charge for that separately. This would be for walls, ceilings, and all trim not including doors. Hope this helps.
