Can I lay ceramic floor tiles over an existing ceramic tile floor?

Question:I have been reading alot about this subject over the internet and can't seem to get a clear answer. I am planning on retiling my 6 ft * 8 ft bathroom because I don't like the tile color. The floor is in very good shape. If I can, should I just use a thinset or should i use a different adhesive?

Thanks,
Brooke

Answers:
No. Your doors won't close, your toilet probably won't seal very well (you are removing your toilet first, right?), and the new tile will break if you plan on walking on the floor. Do the work to do the job right, pay someone to do it for you, or learn to live with the present color.

Sure, if you want the new floor to crack.
yeah i think so
Get a crowbar and hammer, break the old tile out(you will need to dispose of it properly), then put the new tile down...

Puting it on top of old tile is a very bad idea
NO! You will ruin the new floor tiles. The best thing to do is remove the old and then put down the new. Other wise you will just be wasting time and money. Tiles are not like cement or wood floors they are not as sturdy and they don't give as well.
you will be better off removing the old floor before you install a new one over it. just think of having to remove both floors because the new tile floor cracked!!
Don't do it over existing tile. Clear away the old time and grout, etc. Then start with a good cleaning of the sub floor, then tile away.
