Cheapest ways to give bedroom a new look?
Question:I want to makeover (NOT remodel as in knock down walls, install new flooring, etc) my bedroom-give it a new look so that it will look different from how it is now. I don't have a particular budget, but I'm looking for inexpensive ways to jazz up my room (paint,wallpaper,furniture,lig... bedsheets, etc) Which of the ones I just mentioned are the cheapest? Are there any other cheap ways to give your room a new look? BTW, I want my room to actually look different than it does now-i.e. really dramatic before/after photos.

I think the general consensus would be to paint the room. However, I think it is always best to start with the linens because most of the change is going to come from the bedding. One of the things I think people should do is to invest in at least one good set of quality bedding. And i think if you found a set of bedding that you absolutely love, everything else is going to fall into place.
Another thing would be to purchase new bedroom furniture. For people who are on a limited budget but want quality furniture, I would recommend Ashley Furniture. They have three different lines of furniture Ashley, Signature, and Millenium. They range from inexpensive to expensive, but none of them are outrageously expensive. You could purchase a good bedroom set for $1500. If you dont want to spend that much, I know many places where I live that offer sleigh beds for aroud $350.
To really answer your question, I think your could change the look of your room through bedding a painting treatment. It would be the cheapest, because paint alone isnt going to change the look if you have drab bedding.
One thing I will say is that installing a new floor, even though you might not particularly want to, can also be a inespensive fix that dramatically improves the look of the room.
paint is always a good way to go and not very expensive; and then of course new linens.
paint. you get a big difference and you can find cheap paint. one bad thing with cheap paint is that you have to put more coats on to cover properly. i'd go with a middle of the road paint and you probably are looking at spending about 20 bucks for a gallon. one gallon will cover one coat about a 10x10 room. and then a new comforter. you can have a "tada" effect. id look into faux finishes or using a couple different paint colors so that you'll get more drama in your makeover.
Painting your room will add a tremendous change. Pick a color that makes you feel relaxed like a soothing sage green or soft blue.
Make or buy a new headboard. I made one out of white picket fence slats.
Hard wood floors are nice.
White linens are very inviting.
Paint is always the best way to make a room look different. Then add a new comforter and or a new sheet set. Another good way is to buy throw pillows or throw blankets. A new pic or two on the wall or take your own pics and then put them into frames. When I redid my bedroom I painted the walls, bought pillows from goodwill and then some cheap interesting fabric and covered the pillows, I also bought a new sheet set and then went to my mom's and went through all of our old blankets and found a really neat quilt that matched my new room. another good way is to buy big and tall or short and fat inexpensive vases and put fake flowers in them. Search the clearance stuff, go to goodwill or a thrift store, go to flea markets, go to a garage sale, you can find all kinds of neat stuff for cheap. Just have fun! Good Luck!! I'm getting ready to redo my room again too!!
Most privately owned paint Stores sell mistints pretty cheap, these are gallons that were accidentally mistinted, but the paint quality is still there, they usually put a sample on the lid and most sell for 3-5 bucks. Find a major brand Ben Moore or Muralo etc in your area and call first. Only a Rich man Can afford Cheap paint...
No particular budget?
Cheapest makeover with an impact will start with paint. As other answers have mentioned, don't have to get top-of-the-line paint to do so. You can also always paint over if you don't like the colour and you can get sample size cans to try out first. Experiment with textured finishes or feature wall colour scheme or even 2-by-2 colours.
Bedsheets will be next in line. Choice of bedsheets in new different colours to match or contrast your new wall colours will work effectively to creating a new look.
Curtains can be expensive if custom made but if store bought, you might not be able to get the effect you want to achieve. KIV this until you have the rest of the stuff.
Furniture. Definitely will change the look and feel. Even if you just rearrange the furniture without changing it, there's a difference. If you want more of a change, consider painting over your furniture or if you have the budget for it, get new ones.
Light fixtures. Adding standing or bedside lamps can contribute to the effect of a room. Different mood lighting especially affects the feel of a room at night. Nice and unique light fixtures can give a room character even when not switched on.
Adding some simple storage or shelving just to rearrange and organise your stuff can have an effect on overall look and feel. They can match with your new bed or bed colour.
Lastly, adding mirrors to your room can bring a sense of space to it however some will argue that its not good feng shui for mirrors to face the bed. You could put a full height mirror at the walkway where your closet is though.
The first thing is PAINT. Choose a nice color that is light. How about a nice creamy yellow. Accent with red to make the room pop. Window treaments really change the look of a room. If you have a sewing machine, make them. Toppers are very easy and you don't need a pattern. Use with blinds, mini blinds, etc. Makes the room look completely different. Shop yard sales, thrift stores, auctions for items. New bedding would look great.
Good Luck...check out HGTV.com for great ideas.
I found a great painting technique that is dramatic, and very easy. Pick your paint color... then get the exact color in both flat and semi gloss. Tape off straight lines randomly around the room. Alternate the two types of paint. It is a great look. with a smaller room, make the stripes wider to make the room look bigger.
paint it a new color and try a couple of different colors for the trim that match. Then get matching linens and maybe a few pillows or small rugs. This is very inexpensive, maybe even a new lamp.
