Does it cost alot to re upholster a couch?Whats the range?

Question:

Answers:
A lot depends on your fabric choice. Upholstery fabric comes in grades and everyone in the business knows it. Seems to me that the higher (more expensive the grade) the more the cost to upholster. That being said, it also depends on what needs to be done to the piece internally. If cushions need to be restuffed, rebatted or handties need tightening, or any of the mechanics need repair, the cost is higher because there is more labor. Size plays a role, too, as the longer the couch the more material required. Multiple fabrics add to the cost as well. I've paid anywhere from $1,500-$5,000. If you are looking to get a couch reupholstered on the cheap, I have a suggestion. Check out the community colleges and universities in your area that offer classes in re-upholstery. The students often need furniture to practice on, they are well supervised by instructors and usually, in my experience, do a good job.
