My livng room is square & small, all dk. espresso furniture, what color should I paint the walls?

Question:My living room has two windows and in between those 2 windows is the entertainment center, 1 tall tower/bookshelf on either side of a low table that holds TV. One dark chocolate leather loveseat on one side of room, directly across from loveseat is dark choc. chair, and in middle of room is dark choc. leather couch. We originally chose a dark forest green but later learned that dark colors close up a room. I also think we did bad by having dark espresso entertainment center and dark chocolate furniture but too late! I need to know what color we can do the walls without it being too light, I don't dig pastels of any nature, I like earth tones and Starbucks colors.

Answers:
A gold color would work well with your existing furniture color and you could punch it up with red in some accessoires (pillows, a throw, candleholders, etc.).

Benjamin Moore's Golden Tan, Golden Straw, Golden Honey and Good Vibrations are not dark or overwhelming and would look great with the brown in your furniture.

I would paint it a light taupe. If your furniture is dark, go light on the walls.
whatever color you decide..put something on the walls...like artwork..etc....it makes the room appear larger and gives it demension....good luck!
i would suggest a light creamy beige or"vanilla cappiccino" color.also mirros on the walls can make the room look much larger.
maybe keep 3 of the walls a neutral tan color, then maybe the wall with the windows/entertainment center some sort of accent color. Or maybe choose another wall if it would look better. Maybe a dark red? I was going to say a muted teal/bluish color, but you said you're not really into pastels. I think accent walls are a great way to add some bold color to your room w/ out drowning in it.
Go lighter with a wheat or tawny color on one wall, they would definely go with the chocolate brown of the leather, offset with another shade of the same color.
Add some paintings to your wall using the paint you used to paint the room.
You can even paint material. And make you own pillows to match, curtains too.
Or go faux. I did that in my art room. Go to Lowe's and get the roller kit. I choose a light color for my background color and then used shades of yellow, cream, and gold. It sure brightened up the room.
I can't tell exactly what your living room looks like, but Sherwin Williams has a pretty deep color visualizer. You choose the type of room, then pick out colors you like, and it shows colors that go with it. I would suggest finding the color of the dark furniture on the program, then using the earth tone that it says is in the same family.
Behr paint Sand Fossil or Harvest Brown. The paint goes on darker than it looks in the can so I'd go with the Harvest.
If you want to go green tone, try Restful (Behr paint).

Just be sure that the paint doesn't have a peach tone to it when you put it on the walls. I made that mistake when I brought home some Sandstone Cove (Behr paint).
Think Ocean here - water and sand. If you are more partial to earthy colors, I agree that a taupe or sand will look nice. The trend, especially with the chocolate browns, it to use a contrasting paint with a color in the blue family. Maybe something like a steel or icy blue would look nice. I think the taupes will give more of a neutral blend with any decor, whereas the steel blue lends itself especially well with modern/contemporary decor. You might want to try incorporating all 3 - taupe/sand, chocolate brown, blue. If your not sure how these colors will look together, go check out some of the bedding and other textiles at a dept store or a place like Target. You can get a really good idea as to how colors look together and what is in fashion now this way. Good Luck. I think your choice of the dark colors is great.
I would suggest a creamy color of off white or beigh. Place light color pillows on your furniture and it will help.
I agree w/Ansmenam that you should check out the color combos in bedding at Target, or I like Pottery Barn & Restoration Hardware. I like the silver sage (brownish-green) or a turquoisey blue color with dark brown. I painted my guest room the silver sage color & have a dark brownish-black iron bed similar to a Pottery Barn bed. I use white for most of the linens with a throw bedspread & shams in the silver sage color. I have a dark entertainment unit in there. I really like the way it turned out. Check out the greens & blue-greens - it really ads the "punch" to the room w/o over-powering it.
u have some really great answers. If u like to keep it neutral.. then go w/ the beiges/tans/cremes...

If u want some punch... then step up to a earthy green or rust or deep red but only do 1 or 2 walls. Usually the walls u want to pop, is the walls that u c when u walk into the room or the one w/ the largest accent. IF u don't want that wall to show off poss. u'r entertainment ctr then chose the wall next to it or opposite.

I also like the golden yellow suggestion. U can do a BEAUTIFUL faux w/ any of these colors on either all u'r walls..2 walls or 1/2 way up.
U can either buy it pre-made or jst take 3 parts glaze ( buy at paint stores or Walmart) w/ 1 part color. Paint u'r base color then use a shade darker for rich effect or lighter for suttle effect then use sea sponges, reg sponges cut on the side use to give it diminsion or plastic bags, rags, brushes that u can criss cross or go every direction or u can wash it w/ rags ( jst like u'r washnig)

I don't know the style u'r aiming for other than earthy colors.. but u can add stripes vert or horizontal. U can do a faux in on of the stripes to give it a diff. effect.

go to the paint store... get many samples of several colors that u like. put them on the wall & chg them thru out & ck them how they look thru out the day & nt. What ever u do.. add some punch w/ color or designed pillows, throws, floor cushions, artwork, painted frames w/ different access. inside, vases, flwrs.. colored lamps, shades..curtains, valances..

u can ck out http://www.hgtv.com OR http://www.diynetwork.com

Have fun! It's sounds really GREAT w/ expresso furniture & couches.. Just Punch it up some & that OVER POWRing expresso will blend in.
I'd say some yellow shade. But if you want a darker look then a red shade.
No No No you did not do bad if fact chocolate and robin egg blue is all the rage now.Paint the walls the blue,a much paler shade for the ceiling.Find some window treatments that are light and airy preferably with chocolate and blue in them.Layer chocolate and blue pillows on your sofa and buy a complementary area rug.Earth tones are nice but your room Will seem smaller. The blue will open up the room and make it seem fresh.
I think you should paint the walls a shade of red. If you don't have carpet even if you do, A bamboo rug or a sisal rug would look real nice. You can add greens with accessories like silk plants on the entertainment center. You can add colors with florals, pillows, vases and decorative plates.Even the drapes you choose will make a huge difference. Mix it up what ever you choose will look great I'm sure!

Check online at target if your interested in rug they have a great selection!!
