Can I paint vinyl siding?
Question:I just bought this house but I don't like the color. I figured when I bought it I would just paint it but my husband says you can't paint vinyl. True?

Yes, you CAN paint it. My mother's house has vinyl siding and she had it painted - came out great!

You can, but over time, I don't know how well it would hold up very well to the elements. However, people paint over vinyl shutters all the time around here and have no prolems with it fading or peeling. I've never seen a whole house with the vinyl repainted. It may be cheaper to just put up new siding, though. I'm sure painting it would void any manufacturer's warranty that is left on it, too. If it's fairly old, I would probably re-side it rather than paint it. It gets brittle over time, and after about 15 years or so, it will pop and crack easily. Throw a rock at it while cutting grass and you'll end up with a hole.
you would have to use that spray paint that bounds with plastic so that it wont look all fake and cakey

Your husband is Wrong. You can paint it. Go to Lowe's as you can use the computer in the paint department and see what your house would look like after the new paint. Many colors to choose. You just need to use a paint that is made for siding.
You can paint vinyl siding, just remember that vinyl siding in virtually maintenance free. After you paint it you'll have to re-paint it and maintain it regularly.
Buy a top quality 100% acrylic house paint like Pittsburgh Manor Hall and it will last FOREVER. Proper cleaning 1st.
