Has anyone bought custom granite countertops from a company like Costco, Home Depot, etc.?

You are better off dealing A bit more directly with the fabricator . For every company in the chain gets their piece of the "pie" so to speak.
Start by checking with your local registrar of contractors (all have web sites) search them for licensed granite fabricators,(they all have installers) . check how long they have been in business and if any complaints have been filed against them.
interview 2-3 of them .Then make your decision.
The other posters are correct these big stores all hire out the work through sub-contractors. My company did contract work with home depot for A very short period of time ,until we found out how much they were charging their customers for the work we did on our own every day for our direct customers .they were charging 30 % + more for these jobs!
No, but they do not do the fabrication, they use local slab suppliers and fabricators. If you are looking to save a few bucks try the big box stores and the local fabricators and see who offers the lowest installed price for the specific granite and edge treatment you have chosen.
they sub all your work out charge 2 to 3 more than you should
pay
Not from Costco or Home Depot. But you can usually find thinner granite slabs that go for a lot cheaper at a local granite provider.
