How can I get electric power to the interior of a room carpeted over concrete slab?
Question:I am getting ready to recarpet and currently have no power for lamps, etc. in the large room. Is there electrical wire of any sort safe for under a carpet? Or do I need to somehow chisel out a channel for electrical wire in the exposed concrete slab?
Answers:
The only way to install floor outlets to code is to saw-cut the slab, remove concrete, install plastic conduit, repour concrete, pull wire, install carpet and install the outlet and cover.
its probably better to run it through the ceiling an electrician could easily do this
...I wouldm't wan t any wireing under mu carpet...
Why don't you run conduit along the floor to the room?
Easiest way is to go thru the wall. Running wire under carpet is a very bad idea. By cutting a few small hole in the wall and ifshing it thru you can place electric anywhere you want. Unless you have a attic then run it in there.
If you want the outlet to be in the floor, you need to cut a groove in the floor and a hole for the outlet. If you are just putting the outlet in a wall then pull the wire in the attic.
You will need to go to surface wiring. System is available at any large hardware type store. You afix the track to the walls and/or ceiling. Run your wiring and enclose with the snap on cover.
By all means run the wires overhead.
as long as actual wiring is not exposed it is ok...
some people will run wiring right next to tackwood and tape it down or you can cut a slit in your padding and duct tape it down...although going through the ceiling would be more professional I see no major problem with it..
don't waist your time with the concrete. go overhead to the other walls. a fish tape up through the walls to the ceiling and pull it back down and install an outlet. it is quite easy for an electrician.. oh be sure to seal the concrete before installing a new pad and carpet.
I had a similiar issue so I added a false beam to the ceiling and ran wire through it. This way I could have a light fixture!
How about a decorative pillar with the wire inside dropped from the ceiling. This could give you plugs at the base.
