Could insulation in attic cause dark shadow looking stains on ceiling in room below?

Question:Two rooms in my house keeps getting stains that look like they might be caused by the insulation in the attic above. It looks like a blackish shadow and it only appears in the spaces between the beams. It is difficult to cover with a fresh coat of paint, it eventually shows through. I don't know what causes this to try to prevent it from happening.

Answers:
Hi, this could be mould caused by moisture in the ceiling cavity.

It would be a good idea to get it checked out as soon as possible, as it might be caused by something that could turn into a big problem if left unchecked!

Good luck :-)

usually caused by moisture.
Insulation does not cause the ceiling to discolor--but WATER does!

You have a leak. If you don't fix it, it'll only get worse. And the stain will spread.
I'd say it is moisture causing the stains. There could be a leak. Hire someone to check it out ASAP. You don't want it to get worse or cause mold/mildew to grow. Could be as simple as condensation on a pipe or plumbing or more serious. Insulation will not cause a stain on it's own. Good Luck!
