Are there any online guides or advice for prewiring my new house for internet?

Question:The walls of my new house aren't up yet. I thought this would be a good opportunity to put net in every room.

Has anyone done this? Is there a guide online? I am an electrical engineer so I think I can do this easily.

Answers:
you will want to run Cat5e or Cat6 and RG6 coaxial cable from each room into a structured wiring panel, you can get these at home depot and they have room for ethernet, routers, whole house sound, alarm systems, etc. you can run your TV and phone from the utility directly into this panel and make the various connections from there. google "structured wiring" or "computer networks" for more info. you can also pre-install fiber-optic for when the time comes. if you have an area where you are planning to put computer equipment i would run some extra wires to there also. cat5 cable handles telephone as well as internet and computer networks

a real important point is you do not want to wire the circuits in series like you do with electrical outlets, for maximum flexibility you want the wires for each outlet making a home run to the panel. that way you have total control as to what services you want to go to each room.

i think also there is some info at kim komando's website
