I want to paint the exterior of my house. What is the "best" paint to use i.e. brand and type?
Question:I live in Houston, Texas.

It depends on the exterior of your home. Is it brick, block, cedar, stucco, aluminum, vinyl, log? Also what type of finish satin, flat, matte, semi-gloss? Need more info.
I recommend Benjamin Moore.It's not cheap though.We live in Ga. I would think that paint that takes this weather would work there also.Good Luck.
In N. East construction, when exterior painting is reqd, very often specifications will read eg." One coat Benjamin Moore latex primer. w/ 2 coats .Benjamin Moore , Mooreglow exterior paint ,or equivalent".
Up to you to find equiv.

One of the best that I have used on consistant bases is Behr Paint...Only found at Home Depot...Of course you need an Exterior paint but what type of surface you are painting will bepend on what you use...check with the paint dept at Home Depot and they will assist you...and again of all the types I have used Behr is the best.
go to Sherwin Williams and find the oldest person there ,,tell them what you want to do and proceed,,SW is good paint
As a historical restoration contractor, I use Sherwin Williams Duration. It's expensive, but it's a exellent product. If that is too pricey, I would reccomend their A100 as a good paint to use overall.
I started painting in Houston over 35 yrs ago, we used Sherwin Williams and Devoe paints. You have Dulux dealers in your area cause I was in Houston 2 wks ago. Answers are saying Ben Moore and the SW "Duration" which are compatible but the Dulux "FORTIS" is your best bet. I like to use whats best for my clients so I experiment for instance I have 2 10x20 sheds, one painted in sw "Duration" and the other in Dulux "Fortis" the fortis blows away any product I've ever used, their whole line is excellent and that's the products I want my clients to have, Good luck Les the painter. The best paint I have used is Kilz exterior paint. It can be found at Wal-mart in the paint department. Kilz is actually made by Behr (the expensive brand sold at Home Depot) The kilz runs about $20 a gallon. It's great paint at a great price! P.S. I live in San Antonio so our weather conditions are practically the same; which has to be taken into consideration when selecting exterior paint.
I've always had good luck with American brand paint from Lowes. I used an exterior flat latex along with a stain for some trim I had.
