I want to repaint my dining room with something bold. is red a good color?

Question:what shade of red looks good and at the same time attractive ? any sugggestions?

Answers:
If you like red, then it's a good color. Be careful with reds though. It's easy to clash with or get drowned out by any wood furniture or trim you have in the room.

I really like orangeish warm colors in dining rooms. Like this one: http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/dc_design_livin...

If you want to go with red, I would do a red/black/white/silver color scheme with red being mostly for accent color. You can do so much with black, white and silver. It's so easy to find things that match when you use these colors. Plus, if you get bored with the red, just change your accent color! Like this but with your red instead. I don't so much like the arrangements in this room, but it shows how mostly black and white can still be "bold" with a splash of color here and there. http://www.bbc.co.uk/homes/design/design...

Good luck!

red is out for dining rooms sages and dark earthy colors are where its at now
It wouldn't be my choice, but I've seen some dining rooms painted red that looked pretty sharp. Go to the paint store and get several shades you like in pint size cans and bring them home and paint a good portion of the wall and then you can decide and it won't cost you very much to get the shade that you like best.
what is your favorite kind of red food? strawberries-bright and sweet red. spagitti-warm and cozy red, tomatoes- red with a hint of orange. decide what red food you like and pick the shade of red that you think resembles it.
Ya;don't be dumb, red is a very bold color but you'll regret it later. the dinning room should be a soothing color to help you relax when eating, and is the most common room in the place. A place you entertain, guests, family, members of the opposite sex if you prefer...doing this will only give you migrains when you eat, and make your eyes sore...Try better colors, like light blue's, light greys, or even a light soft lavander color would be better choices. that you would not regret later on down the road... My personel choice would be a light soft powder blue color...stop trying to make statements, with color of your rooms and let your guests focus on the meal and conversations or on each other, and not on just the walls of your dining room.
not really...it will look darker after a few days and it will really be hard to repaint it with white or even with other colours...i would recommend lime green or baby blue .. I'm saying this because i once had my room painted red
Red is great.
The walls in my kitchen and attached dinning area are red.It looks wonderful.

It shows off your furniture and is a lively and attractive place.
Go for it !
Red is a very bold color and hard to paint over if you don't like it. I know this because I moved into a house where a bedroom wall was red. It took a LOT of primer. If you want to go with red, maybe do only one wall as an accent wall. Don't know what your style is like but I think an asian styled room would look great...One red wall (or even all of them) and the rest a cream color with black or white trim and crown molding.

No matter what you decide.Sherwin Williams will give you a huge color chart with every color imaginable. I know.. I studied one for months before choosing colors for my entire house. Good luck!
I've actually heard that blue is not a great color for dining room walls because it casts an unappetizing light on your food.

Red is a great color. Especially when paired with crisp white trim and warm woods.

Personally, I'd go for a darker red rather than a bright Orange red. Partly because really bright reds generally start with a colorless base and are runnier than reds that start with a pigmented base. That means more coats of paint and more time consuming. When you're choosing a color, ask the associate. They can usually let you know if it'll be a hard color with which to paint.

Also, I find darker reds more relaxing and brighter reds more energizing.

Red is an appetizing color. That's why so many restaurants use red in their logo.
