What angle do you set your miter saw to cut crown molding for a 22 1/2 degree corner.?
Question:
Answers:
11 1/4 degrees is correct if you are going to cut the crown "in position", set in the saw at an angle like it would go up on the wall.
If you are using a compound miter and want to cut "on the flat", or with the back of the crown on the saw table, it gets a bit more complicated, depending upon the "spring angle" of the crown, the angle of the crown to the wall when it is in position.
The most common spring angles in the US are 38 and 45 degrees. For a 38 degree spring angle, the miter cut is 72.10 degrees and the bevel is 50.61 degrees. For a 45 degree spring, the miter is 74.29 and the bevel is 43.91.
Cutting on the flat is more accurate if you get both the miter and bevel angles dialed in correctly. Cutting in position is a bit easier, provided your saw is large enough to take the crown and you do not allow it to move.
11 and 1/4 degree...It is always half of the degree of the corner
