Is it really worth it to use expensive interior paint vs wal mart?

Question:painting an old farmhouse inside(plaster, wallpaper, drywall)

Answers:
First, a dirty little secret. Much of the paint that Wal-Mart sells is made by Valspar. In fact, many store brands are made by Valspar, and nearly all are made by one of the well-known manufacturers.

That is not to say that it is the same paint that you will find in a Valspar can. There are many variables that go into making a quality paint. In the way of ingredients, calcium carbonate is used in most paint as a filler, it gives the paint the ability to cover other colors and makes the paint a bit thicker. It also weakens the structure of the paint and makes it easier to scuff and stain. Cheaper paints will have more calcium carbonate and very little if any of the other materials that can do the same job with less negative properties. The other materials are more expensive. The same holds true for the chemicals that act as binders, drying agents, etc. The cheaper paints have less of the high quality components, more of the cheap.

Consistency is another issue. A batch of high-quality paint is maintained within 1/2% tolerance or less for key ingredients. Cheaper paint may get away with 3% or more tolerance.

In short, there is a difference in cheap paint and high quality paint. The real question is does it make a difference to you? The less expensive paint will not withstand as much abuse as a quality paint. It will still take a good deal, so it may suit your needs. The high quality paint will have a truer color. It will give you a slightly better finish. Many, maybe most people would never notice either of these.

I think it is worth it, given the amount of time it takes to do a proper paint job. Some disagree, and that is fine. Just so you understand their is a difference.

Not really,as I have used both the expensive and also Walmart's and Walmart is just as good.
I think the prep work is more important.
Nooooo its not worth it. Go to walmart. Its all the same stuff. Also, if you want to change the color soon it wont be a big deal because you didnt spend so much money on the paint! :)
i,ve used wal-mart and the high priced hardware store brands. i can tell No difference, it's been 4 years since i painted and it still looks great, and i've got two kids.
nope not as long as the wall's properly prepped. My professional painter used wal-mart stuff and it looks great!
A person that was in charge of a paint store once said this

The first run is quality paint

Thern they fill the mixing vat with water and they called it the second run/store brand paint

The 3rd time they fill the vat with water, it's called stain

Yes it does make a difference
definitely, you will be suprised how much easier it is to paint with, but you get what you pay for though too.
if possible go for somewhere in the range of 20.00 a gallon paint.
dutch boy, kilz, sherwin williams, valspar, all good paints
Yes, it does matter which paint you use or the quality of the paint. Sherwin-Williams is excellent paint and not expensive either. I would never buy or recommend some one to buy Baer (that might be spelled wrong), costs way too much. Just go to your average paint store, not Wal-Mart or Home Improvement Store. Paint store, I recommed Sherwin-Williams Pro Mar Series. Does wonders- =) Trim paint is another story . . .
No. Not in my opinion.
