mattress clean, so they are put directly on top of the mattress.
However, there are mattress pads that are used to soak up
urine from children or the elderly. These are waterproof and
keep the mattress from getting wet. These type are put on
TOP of the sheet.

You put it under the bed sheet. You wouldn't want to pull back the top sheet and see that pad.
Underneath!! They are designed to protect the mattress, not the sheet. Depending on the thickness, you may need to purchase deeper pocket sheets.
Mattress pads go on the mattress for extra comfort. they should be fitted like the sheet or can be.. Then put your fitted sheet over that.
