Does every bedroom in a home have to have a window?
Question:Looking to do an add-on
Answers:
it should have a window escape route as bedrooms are prone to fires and there should be a way out, other than the door
when i was having new windows fitted, I was told that I couldn't have just one small window than was able to open, it had to be a big one for the health & safety regulations
It should have a window, even for health and hygiene purposes.
Yes for ventilation
Yes, a room must have a window and closet to be recognized as a bedroom.
Depends on the building code for your city or county. Check with them before you start any project. You need a building permit and an inspection.
To adjust your sleep/awake cycle

value to home
Every bedroom has to have a 2nd emergency exit other than the main door. Its a safety thing.
To be "up to code" an egress window is manditory. Even in a walk out basement or upstairs.
Yes, in case of a fire there must be a way out. If not, the house will not pass inspection. It also has to be a certain height from the floor to the bottom sill..Check your local building codes.

How many windows would you have if you lived in a cave, a missile silo, a converted barn silo or an underground home or an earthen banked home where only the roof and one house side shows?
These folks didn't concern themselves with windows. The only things windows do do is:
--afford light when the power is off durring the day - at night who cares?
--an emergency escape route.
--ventilation, who needs it with an AC going, right?
--a view upon the world. Get a picture as they are less expensive.
--let in the cold and heat even if they are triple or quadruple pained, and that is a clue . . . pain.
--easy entry into the house . . . the opposite of emergency exit except dishonest people use them quite often in their version of emergency entry to rip you off.
--when present, require dressing with curtains etc. thus windows are an added expense.
--require cleaning, thus add work for someone, sometime.
--and lastly if one can look out a window . . . then one can look IN a window.
My suggestion, forget the window.
