Please can someone tell me how to cover watermarks on my painted ceiling from a burst pipe?

Question:i had a water leak that came through the kitchen ceiling, ive tried layers of paint and i cant cover the watermarks, how can i get rid of them or cover them

Answers:
There is a product called "Stain Block" it is made by Polycel and widely available in the UK from any good decorators shop. It is an aerosol paint which does it says on the tin. Just follow the instructions on the label. I have used this product for a water mark on the ceiling and it works fine. the only problem is that it stinks until it is dry. Definitely an open windows job!

cover them with a fresh white matt paint
Use a PRIMER for GLOSS PAINT - then go over it with Emulsion when dry
Primer first then emulsion
You have to use KILZ first or it will keep coming back.
you have to first use a product called knotting that covers the mark and allow to dry ,then paint over the top.
You need to use a stain-blocker primer. If you can find one that is oil-based then use that. You can put a dozen coats of regular paint on there and it will eventually stain again. Kilz is a good primer, it might not smell good until it dries, but it does work.
You can buy special paint for this,

Other than that the trick is to make sure the leak is completely fixed and that you have left the ceiling long enough to be completely dry otherwise it will keep coming through.
You should try a high-hiding paint like Kilz. It has always worked great for me and it comes in a special spray can made for spraying on ceilings. It may take more than one coat since you have already painted it with something else. Be sure not to put it on too heavy and let it dry completely between coats.
wash with bleach then paint with kilz-when it's dry of course
paint over them, thats what we did
Had this problem recently when my upstairs tank overflowed and came through the lounge ceiling. We waited for it to dry out completely and then gave it a coat of gloss paint, then when that had completely dried, painted it with emulsion as usual. This has stopped the water mark from coming through again. Complete success, you'd never know it had happened and it's cheap to do too, thank goodness!
use putty over it, and then paint it with a latex based paint
what colour are the walls of yr kitchen.or is there any single dominating colour in the border frieze? well choose that colour or just any pleasing colour, buy casement (its a thick cloth),or matty cloth or jute cloth and stick it either in a geometrical pattern or all over the ceiling and then when the adhesive is still wet, hammer a few nails on it.
if u want to add extra touch of finish, just paint the fabric with colourful abstract design.
there is one more suggestion; obtain a poster of fruits/vegetables/eatables(lik... the ones u see stuck on pizza hut or macdonalds.)get it mounted and laminated and then nail it on the ceiling.after that just forget about leak stains.

i have several times covered leaks and cracks by this trick and people always asked me where i had got the designer work done.
they dont know this secret..!
Ordinary oil based white undercoat Make sure the instructions say "Clean Brushes in White Spirit or Turps"
use an oil based matt primer x2 coats then use whatever paint u planned on once it's dried.
There is a product called "bullseye" on the market. It is a primer and covers anything. Use it as a primer and then paint over the color you want.

Enjoy your day!
the only thing i have ever done is use stuff called kill it will go over and kill most stains let it dry and paint over it you can get it at any paint shop or even wal-mart
I had the same problem myself and no matter what i did i couldnt cover it with white emultion so i painted the ceiling a different colour then painted it white it took about 3 coats of white to cover the coloured paint and now i have no more water marks
buy can of Stain stop from DIY store . Worked for me after shower leaked
Don't waste money on expensive stain block or anything that says it is designed to cover stains.
Any oil based paint will cover it. The paint most often used on ceilings is water based emulsion, which I suspect is what you've been using. It doesn't matter how many coats of that you apply, the stain will still come through.
1 or 2 coats of oil based undercoat, and then go over it with the emulsion. Job done.
A solution of diluted PVC painted over the stains will do the trick nicely.

It is used by plasterers to seal newly plastered walls ready for painting. Not only is it cheap but it also has many other uses.

My husband put a nail through the central heating pipe under the floors and we had water stains which were resistant to almost everything and eventually the stains showed through the top coat of emulsion. However, one coat of the PVC Solution and Voila...no more stains showing through.
You can buy special paint to cover watermarks.

If you are in the UK, you can get it in Homebase.
You can buy a special stain paint from diy stores couple of coates applied will stop any stains bleeding through new paint work.
First make sure it's dry then paint with Stain Stop.
That forms a coating over the stains, so they don't show through again.
Then paint with whatever colour paint you like.
*you could always put up fresh plaster board and start from scratch or for an easier method try a good sealer and undercoat then a coverall paint.good luck.
i work in a lot of people s homes as a plumber best thing to do is pva with white paint do it twice stain gone

cant remember what its called but its a water sealer stuff, its a bit like paint, you out two coats on then paint over and youll never have water marks again, if you just paint over it it will come back thru, if you go to b & q they will know the stuff im on about.
get some pva glue or a sealant and coat it two times
