Centerpieces for work?

Question:I am in charge of the breakroom at my job and I thought it would be nice to have a decoration on the table (centerpiece). I think it would brighten up the room. I am looking for something that I can make and be able to change out certain things for the holidays. Any ideas??

Answers:
Interesting idea. The first thing that comes to mind is some sort of vase or basket with a block of foam that florists use. Flowers, dry or fresh, can be stuck in and changed whenever. Also there are hard metal sticks you could glue or tape things to that could also be stuck into the foam block and changed easily. Eventually I think the foam block would need to be replaced as well. I suggest going to a craft store and taking a walk down the florist supply section for ideas.

What kind of budget do you have? What kind of business is it?
Try using a container associated with your work, if possible.
For instance: Doctors office - giant specimen cup,
Computers - hot glue CD/cases around a square planter,
Fishing - mini lobster trap, library/book store - hollowed out book as base for container.
Throw in some flowers appropriate for the season [ spring, summer, fall, winter ] and a different holiday accent each month. [ Valentines Day - hearts; St. Pats - leprachaun or shamrocks; Easter - bunny or eggs; Memorial/Flag Day /Fourth of July/ 911/Veteran's Day - flag; June - graduation hat; October - pumpkins/black cats; November -
turkey; December - Sants, kwaanza colors, Menorah , and Ramadan lantern. New years - naked pink baby. [ Most of these can be purchased at the dollar store or a party store. ]
Add appropriate candies on the day of or day before each holiday.
Put some decorative items around or as background for bulletin board. [ pretty wrapping paper behind announcements.]
Make sure the room has all the amenities you can afford:
coffee maker, fridge, and microwave.
Hopefully management provides coffee, tea, cream, and sugar. If not, start a coffee fund, and collect from each person on payday. Keep a ledger, so people can't cheat, and you don't have to remember it all.
Encourage every one to clean their own mess. If you see someone leave without tidying their mess, a mention of ants/roaches/mice usually helps.
The second time, give them a note that says YOUR MOTHER DOES'T WORK HERE -
clean up your own mess!
Third time - give them a printed label that says, I Made A
MESSIE! and stick it on their shirt! [anyway, that's what I always wanted to do ]
Good luck, and have fun!
