I am installing new carpet for the first time any triacks i should know about?

Question:12 x12 bedroom putting down new under lay aswell.

Answers:
you should have no problem. since the room is 12 x12 the walls on the width should fit perfect. Don't wrestle with the carpet. fold to corners in and then flip the triangle you've made by folding the corners back like and envelope. that is the best way to handle the beast for shifting and maneuvering. Nail your tack trips around the perimeter one finger space from the wall. that gap is for tucking the carpet. tack two walls one length and one with making a "L" the other two walls are your stretch walls. A knee kicker would be fine for a 12 x 12 room. To save your knees do small light kicks from one wall, put pressure on carpet and move up to the other wall. Like rolling your sock on your foot.do this in increments of 4. stretching every 3 foot. and tack it down while still stretched when you make it to the wall. Always leave alittle extra carpet on the wall to tuck behind the tack strip. Take your time and notice your cuts before hand. And change your blades often.
It is not as difficult as people are making it seem, If you work with the carpet and not trying to manhandle it and fight with it, it will fold down like making a bed.

First you're doing it the right time of year. Those installed in winter will loosen up and have wrinkles in the summer. I'm sure you know what tack strip is. Put that around each edge except doorways and then put the pad to where it fits inside that. The sharp points on the tac strip point to the walls. Cut the carpet to a little too big. Place it over the pad and start stretching. The knee kickers will kill your knees. The wall to wall stretchers are hard to use. You have to rent those in either case. Just stretch it as good as you can and then cut the excess off. If you have to make seams, there are special tapes for that - some need heat (an old iron will take care of that) but getting cuts that will go neatly together is hard.

Your best bet is to look up carpet laying on the internet and follow their instructions. I just looked up "How to install carpets" and it lists everything you need.

This really isn't an amateur job. I learned from experience. But sometimes, it's all you can afford and that's the way we learned.
Mary noname above is correct.
My DH and I installed carpet in the bedroom & closet and what a b##tch!! hopefully your nice square room would be easier.
Taking up the old carpet is a chore. Cut into slmaller pieces and wear dust mask.
Putting down the new carpet is easier if you don't have to seam. The naily carpet tapes are easy to use, but you really have to stretch the carpet -- which isn't easy without that knee nailer thing. we just put the pad underneath -- don't try to attach that to the naily tapes as it rips easy.
By all means wear KNEE PADS!!

Yes, the rug was put down and it's lasted a while, but the seams aren't the best and you have to be careful when you vaccum!

Install if you really want to this time.but you'll learn and my Best Advice: Get a pro to do it. Quicker, cleaner, better job in the long run..
