Can you attach curtain rods to the ceiling?
Question:OR do you need a special curtain rod for that? I want curtains in my room but my windows reach up to the ceiling so there is no room to put a curtain rod on the wall. Is it normal to attach it to the ceiling in this case?
Answers:
Buy slightly wider rods and curtains than the window and attach to either SIDE of the window. I suppose you could hang one from the ceiling but depending on the material the ceiling is made of, it may not support the weight of the rods and curtains and the nails or screws you attach the rod with may tear up the ceiling.
I'm sure people have done this before. Contact your local Home Depot to find out what you need to buy to do this.
Yes, it can be done and I have done it. You will need the type of rod held up by two finials for the best appearance. You will have a gap between the ceiling and the finial poles, however. Also, you need to mount the finials with anchor mollies unless you are going through the studs in the ceiling. I've hung very heavy quilts from the ceiling as window treatments and have used them in more complicated swag designs over beds. It is a unique look.
Ask for airline cable, turnbuckles and I hooks. They can be anchored anywhere, and will span any length.
