I've been an interior designer for about 20 years and one thing to consider is what the client wants!

So you're thinking black furniture with hot pink and black bedding. Your style is kind of "punkish".

You might want to consider one of the really hot metallic paints. Ralph Lauren offers a line of metallics that is really great! A light silver would probably be a great contrast with the black furniture and hot pink bedding. The existing carpet sounds pretty neutral so I would not worry about that.

Follow the application instructions carefully for these products; they can be a bit tricky. What we have done in the past was paint the wall behind the bed with the metallic and paint the remaining wall with light non-metallic color. In this case probably a light grey would look good. Have fun!!!

You can't go wrong with Navajo White. Some people think it's bland, but when you consider that all new homes are painted white (interior) there has to be a reason...it will match any other colors you choose for your furnishings.
Because its your bedroom...you don't have to follow convention...just do what you WANT! My caution, having said that, is that you may want to be selective, in that you may tire of something that is so bold. With the tan carpet and the brown furniture, I would say that you could go a very natural route...selecting a wall colour from nature...a green colour. But since you say you are willing to paint your furniture, I would suggest this.

Paint the furniture white. It will brighten it up...and will be a good, fresh colour to start from. Paint the walls a slightly darker colour than the carpet...in the tan family...and then use the bedding to brighten everything up. With the beige and white...you can go red, apple green...even orange! It will have a more mature look than the hot pink and black...and will be easier to change with the seasons. You can keep your sheets white...but use a throw in different colours to suit your moods. Red for winter, bright green for spring and summer...know what I mean?
a really breezy bright tropical sky blue. the dark brown furniture will really pop up against it and the tan carpet will be like sand.
