Answers:
Themes from the 1940's
USO
Combination of theater, swing music, dancing, and military. You can go red, white and blue, or stick with more of a military flare, but always come back to the entertainment of ensambles like the Andrews Sisters.
(Check out the movie "Buck Privates")
Pearl Harbor
Combine hawaii with sailors for more of a tropical feel. Can always add something of Rosie the Riveter!
Savoy Ballroom
This was the hub of swing and dancing in Harlem and where the best dancers learned and performed. Gather a collection of big band concert posters (Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Glenn Miller, etc). Lots of hardwood, brass, and crimson velvet curtains.
Cotton Club
Strictly a black tie local, many, many, many photos and events are known about the Cotton Club and could be added to your room. (Will probably be more of a black and white color theme).
The Coconut Grove
Where the hollywood elite would dine and dance. Combines swing attitude with latin flare. Watch the movie "The Aviator" to see several shots of the recreation of the interior of this Club.
I hope that helps!
Rent a few movies based in the 40's. you'll get some good ideas.
the 1940's was before the TV was invented thus everyone listened to radios similar to this one http://www.electronixandmore.com/radios/... ... just an idea
