If you don't want the lines in it you can fill it with wood filler and then sand the entire wall,making sure to make the filler smooth with the paneling.Then wipe it with a slightly damp cloth to clean the dust and prime it. Then you can paint it the desired color. If you are talking about panels such as cabinet doors or wall panels you can paint those also.It would be best to prime the panels first,especially if the wood is much darker than the color you want to paint them or vice versa.
