Inexpensive 26x38 poster frame?
Question:I found this amazing movie poster while on vacation, but I can't seem to find a frame for it. The dimensions are 26 x 38 and I really want something cheap and simple so I can display the poster proudly in my room!
Answers:
did u try Walmart or Aaron Bros? It is a odd size b/c there is no "SET SIZE" poster frame.. that's where they get u. Or try even Michaels.
If u don't succeed... u mite try mounting it on foam board that u can get any craft stores OR ask in the framing dept for them to sell & cut it for u.
Also frame shops will DRY MOUNT the poster onto foam board for a cost then u can hang it w/ foam board hangers. OR u can attempt to do what we call a "wet mount" where u use adhiesve spray on the back of the poster & slowly w/ clean hands & clean towel/spong place it on the foam board rubbing out the bubbles.
Either way.. will work... if u'r short on $
Something that I have done for cheap art is..
Go to some place like "Hobby Lobby" or an art store where they sell large sheets of Mat (photo mats are made from it) they have all colors and they come huge, so would be big enough for your poster, and you can customize the color..they will even cut it down for you..and will bring out some colors from your poster..
you can then glue it to the board..with glue sticks..
and hang with sheer ribbon , wire..whatever..
I used some brown boards and hung with wire , then used old glass door knobs to hang them from..
there is also black foam core..and other colors as well, if you like those..
you`ll pay about 5.oo for the mat boards, maybe less at hobby lobby..
For my kids' rooms, we hang their posters using painter's masking tape. You can find it at the hardware store and it comes in several colors, each for a different degree of stickiness. It's a few dollars a roll and rolls come in a variety of widths. Unlike traditional masking tape, over time, the colored painter's tape won't leave a residue on the walls.
The way we use it to make a frame is to hold the poster out flat against the wall and run a line of tape over the edge of the poster. It covers the edge of the poster and the surrounding wall. Apply long strips to the top and bottom of the poster and it will be stuck to the wall. Make them longer than needed, you'll trim them later.
Next, apply long strips to the sides of the poster, leaving extra long ends. Then trim the extra tape to make it look like a neat square in each corner. That's it! It's cheap, looks neat, won't allow the poster to curl or tear, and is safe for both poster and wall.
Please don't try mounting it on a board yourself. It can cause the paper to wrinkle and you don't want to ruin a poster that you can't replace.
