Do you prefer Curtains or Blinds?

Both. I like blinds for privacy and curtains for appearance. I hang the blinds inside the window opening and light curtains over them. This way, I can use off the shelf blinds. They are a LOT cheaper than special order. And curtains from any of the discount chain stores. The ones my wife selected for our living room were under $30 at Walmart, and look great.
I have both, since my townhouse came with blinds, I hung light weight, classy drapes in front of my blinds.

Usually I have blinds and I put a curtain over them or a sheer valance type thing!
Curtains because they make a room feel warmer. Blinds seem stiff and industrial to me. For some windows I like those lace undercurtains because then I can see out but people can't see in and the window is still pretty.
Blinds with a top valance.they are easier to take care of and I like the way they look and You can change your valance alot cheaper then curtains! With blinds you can let as much sun light in or close them for privacy!
We live in a very dusty area. Blinds are favored over curtains because blinds can be vacuumed; where cleaning curtains is a major production usually resulting in replacing some or all of the curtains.
There is a huge selection of possible window coverings with all sorts of properties to consider. My top list of considerations:
Easy to clean.
Variable light transmission.
Insulation factor.
Simple mechanism.
Durability.
Of course there's color, texture, finish, material etc. but that's an "of course" with any such project.
* I like blinds or shutters because curtains collect dust and are expensive to clean. If you like the look of curtains you can use them as an accent and use the blinds to block light and eyes. I have alegeries so I have to be as clean as possible. Good luck and have fun
Curtains, they keep the warmth in and make any room look cozy.
The nicest blinds can never compare against the nicest curtains. Just the way they look, the texture and feel makes it soft and more inviting. Also, much easier to clean.
With that said, of course the worst curtains can't compare with the nicer blinds. So it boils down to the choice of curtain material in that case. But I'd still prefer curtains if I have the budget.
