We painted around the outside walls of our firplace a brown, the rest of the walls are off-white. Do you think?
Question:it looks odd? I don't want to paint the whole brown because i don't want to darken it. BUT I wanted to add a splash of color. What to do now?Do you think it's ok?

You won't find a satisfactory answer on here. I know, I'm an interior designer. Short of actually being able to see what you're referring to and know what kind of space you have, lighting you have, furniture you have. you'll never be satisfied with any answer here. Because one simply can't convey what it is with text. If YOU think it looks odd, then it probably is.
The best I can offer is to suggest that you use a bunch of bright accessories to offset the dark brown. (Art, photos on the mantle, vases, etc.)
If you're looking for a splash of color, then brown might not be the right choice. You can aim for the fireplace to be the focal point of the room. You can try using burnt orange, brick red or tangerine. This will brighten up the room. Follow through with hues of the same color on the throw pillows and paintings to pull the look together.
