Apartment decor help?
Question:I need inexpensive decor ideas for my apartment. I cannot paint or do anything perm. Here's what I'm working with:
Living room and kitchen are only seperated by the kitchen counter. Living room floor is blue, walls are grey and white. (light grey). I have two windows in my livingroom and none in my kitchen. Kitchen counters are white appliances are mostly white. Cabinets are bright wood. I have a chest of drawers, a roll-top desk, a tall book case and some smaller kitchen chairs in my living room. They are all mostly dark wood. I cannot paint the bookcase. I need color schemes, cheap furnishing ideas (I MEAN CHEAP) and some way to seperate the two rooms if possible or bring them together color-wise without having them match exactly. I want them to look like seperate rooms. Details, color schemes, do-it-yourself ideas and links and pictures would be greatly appreciated and make a "best answer" more likely:)
Thanks!

a simple thing that you can do is use fabric...you can find cheep fabric just about anywhere. Use the fabric to make your own curtains, pillows, or furniture throws. Fabric is very easy to change up and will create a cozy space for you and can be changed on your mood and your budget. All of these can be done by hand so you don't need a sewing machine just some needle and thread. Using mirrors can also make a smaller space feel larger. If you have space in your kitchen I would place one so it will reflect the light out. Embrace the random color furniture you have. It's already loved and lived in so use that to your advantage and place items that you love and cherrish around you..group like items together, but don't over do it since you have a small space. Most of all love your space and make it yours..decorate with things that you love and that represent you and your space will feel more genuine and home like no matter what the size.
Hi there! Good color accents for you would be mocha, coral and light butter yellow or cream. You can splash these colors on throw pillows, paintings, glass decor objects and even dinnerware. You can tie up the whole look of the space by choosing a decor style. It could be japanese, modern, country...whatever you fancy. You can look for second hand furniture items at flea markets and surplus centers. Just stick to your desired room style. Also try to check out www.bhg.com for interior decorating ideas.
I faced almost the same problem as far as, I couldn't do anything perm, but needed color. I went to Wal Mart, their craft section has dollar fabric. Basically you pay a dollar a yard. I found one I really liked, just one that jumped out at me. It ended up being a grape, vineyard print. I used something called stitchery wizard. It's a iron on adhesive type deal. You fold the fabric over it (like for the hems), and iron the fabric. It bonds the fabric together, no stitches. It was so easy. That's the easiest way to add your personal touch to a space without perm changes. And if you can sew, or know someone who can and is willing to help, you can do so much like throw pillows, more extravagant window treatments, new cushions for chairs, etc. The link below is one they did on HGTV. You may search their site for ideas as well.
