I have a very plain wall in my sunken living room. I'd like to add a faux fireplace.?

Question:Any ideas?

Answers:
Lowes has them. If you are handy get a mantel board some crown molding and decorative door facings for the down sides and make a fake. I have one and it's beautiful.

How about a used brick or stone veneer. Some of the stone veneers I've seen are very impressive adding character to whatever you may be improving.
a few issues back domino magazine did an issue on how to do a gold leaf fireplace check it out on this website www.dominomag.com and they also have a whole gaggle of how to's. good luck!
Two things come to mind when someone mentions a "faux" fireplace. one... the painting technique of making something appear to be there, that isnt. or a 'working' fake fireplace... by fake, it means it doesnt really burn wood.

There are several ways to create the 'illusion' of a fireplace... from painting techniques to using very thin pieces of brick or stone facing on the wall, and trim, to make it look like there is a fireplace on that wall. This takes some artistry and skill...but you can do it. The building supply stores will have everything you need to do this, and can probably even set up some training for you.

There are several types of "fake" fireplaces on the market... meaning that they use a fake flame, (usually lights and fabric, with fake logs), actual flames from gel fuels, etc. Most of these are called "ventless" fireplaces. A quick search online, or at your local building supply store, fireplace dealer, etc, will turn up several models and types of these. Depending on where you purchase one of these types, the dealership may install it, or you can install it yourself.

Personally, I'd rather have a ventless fireplace that can actually 'work' as opposed to just a decorative application to the wall.

Have Fun :)
