Does anyone know the building codes very well in Florida - Orlando (Orange County) ??

Question:I want to convert a garage into a room...I WILL leave the garage door intact but I want to change the INSIDE portion of the garage so its like a room. I would need to run duct work into the garage to keep it cool...Any thoughts or help?

Answers:
you sound like you are going to get a permit. contact your building department for the requirements. In California we have to provide Title 24 energy calculations in addition to drawings for permit. your garage door is not sealed and will cause cooling loss. The ducting can run in the attic space?

You will not need to trouble yourself with any building codes for this small project, no matter what anyone else says. Just refinish the garage like any other room, add ducting, lighting, carpet etc.

Just don't put a bed or anything resembling a bed room in this room (like a tenant).
1. county/city building dept.
2. contact local civil engineering co.
3. ask professionals (FREE) at

Good luck
