Can the overspray from lacquer based paint harm the finish on hardwoor floors?
Question:stupid painters are spraying while i am installing prefinished hardwood floors
Answers:
yes it will make it dull. they should buy some flooring paper and cover it till they are done spraying. you might be able to use a product called "goof off" you get it at lowe's. i've used it to get glue and other things off prefinished floors and it hasn't damaged the finished.once you use it to remove the over spray..you need to take a terri cloth rag and buff the spot a little.
Yes. You might not be able to get the overspray off very easy. Even if they use lacuer thinner or a paint thinner you may and probably will end up with dull spots on the flooring. You need to tell then they need to cover the floor before they paint or go to your local home depot to get something to cover the flooring. When they are done you might not be able to see the color of the paint but its going to feel gritty eventually it will wear off but that will take along time since wearing it off will require walking on it. Its always better to be safe than sorry. The painters should understand your concern so should the guys laying the floor. Either of the 2 companies should be more than happy to cover the flooring for you. Id talk to the guys laying the floor about your concerns.
Yes it definately can..but why blame the painters? The rule of construction is to do the painting first, before any carpet, floor coverings, light fixtures, light switches etc are installed...You are actually the one jumping the gun here...and basically, you hired out, or a contractor did, for the painters to do this and lacqer has to be sprayed, it isn't brushable. By rule when i contract a house out to paint, I have A clause in my contracts that state NO OTHER TRADESMEN are allowed to do work inside untill painting is complete..Just you or anyone opening and closing the doors as they spray can create a draft and suck paint all over wet painting materials...You canot create dust and sawdust etc when painters are doing thier job..I have actually made some contractors and home owners pay "extras" for violating this contracturial clause to fix rough surfaces..even without the clause..they are not responsible for someone elses mistake..back off on the flooring, and don't jump the gun..let them do thier job..
