White tile floors decorating tips?

Question:Our house has a very long living room/dining room combo with white ceramic tile. The walls are a light brown color with a white vault ceiling and dark wood center beam in the middle. There is a stone fire place in the living room. Does anyone have some decorating tips? We like dark wood and antique looking furniture. We also have pets so we can't have anything expensive.

Answers:
hey.. i know that pet thing about expensive things.NOT. so r u looking for couches etc b/c u didn't mention them. What about print or colored pillows to give it some punch. Almost anything will go w/ brown/lt brown. So if u'r leaning more towards antique style decor... then go more for the tapestry prints.. ck out garage sales/ thrift stores/ vintage stores/ estate sales... even clearance bins at fabric store. U can make u'r own pillows by covering older pillows or buying a pillow form. IF u can't sew... then use STITCH WITCHERY (ask at the fabric place ) & u can iron a pillow case etc..

U can cover u'r lamp shades w/ a similar print or paint the lamps.. or try to find AGAIN at these diff. stores lamps. U should b able to find something there. Throw some large rugs w/ a neat flora print or design on the rug to add some more colors.

Antique actually uses a lot of muted/deeper colors.. i think a deep red/maroon/burgandy would look good along w/ a deep green/golds/.. don't 4 get prints framed on the walls.. put up shelves & u'r family pix in antique frames w/ those parchment mats... Throws..

B Creative & have fun~

Are you keeping the light brown walls? If so, you need to add some brightness to the area!
1] get light, airy window treatments - lace, sheers, informal but not casual, to go with the antiques.
2] add mirror across from windows, or on longest wall.
3] frame all pictures, mirror, etc, in brass or silver, to add light.
4] add some potted plants in tubs of the metal, or the colors of the upholstery.
5] get artwork with some of the furniture colors, and a lot of light color.
6] add brass or silver candle holders, with furn. colors candles.
7] put picture or mirror over fireplace, or candles and figurines.
8] add 'antique' orintal rugs with furniture colors, be sure they are scotchguarded.
9] consider different wall colors:
dusty rose [ with cool colors like burgundy, gray, dark blue ]
peach [ with warm colors like ivory, sage green, brown ]
pale yellow [ either ]
mint green [ cool ]
aqua [ warm ]
sky blue [ cool ]
lavender [ cool ]
light caramel or warm honey [ warm ]
well you said long so imediately i'm thinking nice long cozy runner. if you do decide to get one you will need to buy a rubber backing for it so it doesn't slide all the time. i gave a thumbs up to AJ
