Window air conditioner in a townhouse?
Question:I have a two bedroom townhouse. The stairs are in the middle of the house. Living room on one side and kitchen on the other. The upstairs has one bedroom and a bath one one side of the stairs and the large bedroom on the other side of the stairs The bedrooms are not straight across from each other. I have a window airconditioner for one room (my son doesnt like it in his window) He has a double window in his room. How can I cool his room off better? Last summer it did not cool both rooms. Can I vent a window in his room to pull the cool air into his room? (top or bottom part as my windows do both) I also have blinds on his windows. He doesnt like the fan on him but I can put one in his room if it helps. I have a fan in my bedroom but not in his. I have a fan for upstairs and down stairs.
Also, I put an A/C in the living room should I vent the kitchen window? to pull cool air into the kitchen?
I just dont want to waste money cooling the outside.
Thanks

definitely adding fans helps to circulate the air. however, it depends on the size of the a/cs that you have also. depending on the BTU it is only going to cool so much. and it can get easily overworked. last year we started carrying floor type a/cs. which sit on the floor but you still have to run the tubing out the window for it to 'drain.' i would also not recommend having windows open...you will just be cooling the outside if it happens to make it that far. i guess i would really just look at the sizes you have running. obviously, the higher BTU the more it can cool and easier it would be to move the cooler air around. if you already have ceiling fans, check to see which way they are turning. turning one way can actually not help because it is pulling the air up or pushing it down. depending on the effect that you want.
ive heard to never open a window whe the a/c is on. it doesnt have the effect you're looking for. i would use fans in as many places as possible to circulate as much air as possible. especially upstairs since heat rises.
