Spraypaint Help!!!?
Question:So I was a bit too liberal with my spraypainting of my 1987 Mac case, and there are streaks. Its probably going to be in a dark room anyway, but I would like to try and get rid of them. Is there a way I can use sandpaper and dull out the heavy parts or am i doomed?
Answers:
Try steel wool first, wipe with a tack cloth, then if the runs remain, try very fine grit sandpaper. I use spray paint on a lot of my projects and used to have a heavy hand, sprayed too close to earn the title of Queen of Runs, Drips and Errors. However, there is a great tool that changed my spray painting career that you can get for a couple of bucks at the home improvement center that will make all of the difference. It is a trigger that fits over the nozzels and enables you make smooth, even strokes, helps you maintain the proper distance and gives much better results.
You can try the sandpaper, but you need to wait until the paint is REALLY dry...a day or two at least. Then gently rub the sandpaper on the thick spots, wipe the residue away, and respray light coats until you get the coverage you want.
Another possible solution: nail polish remover. I have never tried this to know if it would work on spray paint, but it would be worth a try if it is important to you. Make sure it won't damage your original surface. You may need to use straight acetone (available at Wal-mart with the other nail polish removers).
