Can existing brick be painted?
Question:I have an older 100% brick ranh style home and previous owners have done brick-work over the years and the mortar does not match in several places. I'm looking for a way to cover this and am thinking that a whitewash type painting may be the best alternative, but don't know how feasible that is, or if it can be done effectively? I know I've seen many homes that have this type of brick, but my guess is that they are usually done with the original brick and not after the fact (once the home is bricked).. HELP

If you decide to tackle this task on your own I recommend a few pointers.
Pressure wash the entire wall you're going to paint and let dry for 24-48 hours before beginning to paint. Only wash the wall you're about to paint and not the whole house as you won't have the cleanest surface on the last wall you paint.
Next, if you have a power painter, use that in lieu of a brush or roller. This will give a less textured and more even coat on the brick.
Last, check with your home improvement store or paint store for the best exterior paint for brick. Some don't adhere well to the mortar.
Good luck!
yes it can,, if you can paint a wall, you can paint a wall of bricks
Yes it can.
The best thing you can do is apply a coat of KILLZ first and then pait it what ever color you want.
I had o do the same thing a few yrs back and trust me this is the best/eassiest way to do it.
Good luck.
Sure you can. Many people are doing this to get rid of the "hard brick" look. Ask for some pointers where you buy your paint.
Brick can be painted as easily as a wall.
