Oak trim-Would like to add architectural trim?
Question:Hi! I have an 80's house with light brown stained oak baseboards, doors, door trim and window casings. I would like to add some trimwork on the wall for depth and a more elegant look. However all the trimwork ideas are shown in white. Can I add stained oak trim? Would adding crown moulding be too much? Does anyone have a good book or website to recommend?
Answers:
Yes, you can add stained oak trim and crown moulding. If it was me, I would stain the wood first then nail it up, then touch up the nail holes. You can go with either 3 1/4 or 4 1/4 crown. Cutting crown can be a little tricky. It is cut upside down and backwards. You should be able to find some pictures on the internet that will show you how to cut it. It is real hard to explain. Here is a website with some different types of moulding. Look at the applied moulding. I use A6 most of the time and the AA7 looks nice but is a lot bigger. The fist number is the thickness and the last one is the height. Hope this helps.
