How do I know if I have hard wood floors and how do I get the glue off of them?

Question:The wood underneath my carpet is dark. The house was built in the 20's. It looks like the used glue at one time to attatch carpet, is there a glue remover that is safe for hard wood?

Answers:
You probably are going to need a sander for your floors. You can rent them at home improvement stores. It will be a big job so make sure you have plenty of time set aside for your project. Good Luck!

You would need to sand them, which shouldn't be too difficult if you rent a floor sander at a hardware store (or have them professionally sanded). The, of course, you will need to treat the wood again with a stain/sealer, etc. Not all wood floors are hardwood. In the 20's ALL floors were built of wood, but not necessarily a good quality hardwood. And some have hardwood only on the periphery of the room and a lesser quality wood in the center, where it would be covered with a decorative rug. If you are unsure about the wood quality, you may want to hire the job done, with an estimate being made after the contractor inspects the job on-site.
if its not pywood then its hard flooring to get glue off use a sander.. is best to have it done by someone who knows wood floors are easier to clean and look much better
goo-gone lots of it..
You need to get adhesive remover from your home building supply store. It's like a gel and you need to spread it on and let it sit. Then you scrape it off. It's best to do one small section at a time.
Keep in mind that your floor will still need to be refinished, but at least you won't have to do heavy sanding to get through all the glue.
