How do I calculate fabric yardage for an upholstered piece?

Question:I need to know how to do basic calculations for upholstered pieces? How many yards will I need? Assuming there is no repeat in the pattern to take into consideration

Answers:
If your working in yards, get your tape measure, run from back of piece-say easy chair, to front. take measurement. Measure width.Measure cushion, front, back ,sides. Underneath cushion. Sides etc. Allow 6inches on measurement. This covers seams, piping etc. If you know width of material, and there isn't any matching, or a pile(velvet), or a bias( one way) to follow, you should be able to calculate. A two-seater settee would be roughly 15 yards, a 3-seater-20-22 yards.

I looked at about 20 links and they all show the same thing

You need to know how much each pattern uses. You did not say what type of peice your doing, If you were building from scratch you just calculate by the sq yard based on your patterns ie arms, backs platforms etc...
