not enough info.. masonry or metal.. ? slab marble or tile? raised hearth or recessed?
this is tricky business.. marble is very fragile and easy to break..
I'd hire a pro to set it.. they typically assume responsibility for cutting, fitting, etc.. If you do it yourself, you replace what you broke yourself, too.
i would recomend no more nails or something similar.i installed a granite surround and it,s still there.the only promblem may be the amount of heat generated from the fire.use copious amounts cheers
