Fireplace painting questions?

Question:I have an old stone fireplace, can I do faux painting on a surface like that? Have any of you done that? Please help. Thanks! You can see a picture of the fireplace at :

I have "sealed" and painted the bricks on fireplaces. I had no problems at all. I sealed one just to bring out the detail in the bricks. The other I painted. It takes some time to make sure you fill in all the little holes. The house I have now, the bricks are painted. Good Luck!!
