How can I get latex paint off a leather sofa?

Question:Some of the paint is in the groves of the leather or smeared on the leather and I can't get it off.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answers:
Whatever you're using, use green wool to rub/scrub/scratch it off. Normal cloth just won't be able to reach into the grooves.

You could also try just wetting it down and using steel wool (but gently).

Goof-Off.
Try it in an area that is underneath first, it may discolor the leather depending on the stain. Use it in small amounts.
If no sucess with the goof off Id try using hand cleaner also sold in most paint stores, It comes in a round container and used by Mechanics alot, try a little at a time and try to break down the paint.
try some rubbing alcohol in a spot no one will see if it doesn't remove the dye then rub your paint with a rag with the alcohol in it works on my cell phone case
Call a professional. Any of these solutions will discolor the sofa.
Any of the above products will almost certainly damage the finish on your leather.

If paint will not clean off with LTT Maxi Cleaner (www.LTTsolutions.net) it is unlikely to be removed with anything that will not also damage the leather finish. A good technician should be able to reduce the paint and colour over any residues.

If you do have a paint spillage:

Remove excess wet paint using a knife, wallpaper scraper etc. taking care not to scratch the surface and working from the outside to the inside of the spill so as not to spread it further. Once the bulk is removed mop up the rest with a cloth or paper towel again working from the outside. The remainder should now be cleaned ideally with a foam leather cleaner (LTT do a ready to use foam cleaner) but warm soapy water can be used if leather cleaner is not to hand. All of these processes need to be carried out before the paint dries. The object is to remove as much of the paint before it dries as possible. This will make whatever processes are necessary to finally restore the leather more effective.

Do not be tempted to use products such as brush cleaner, white spirit, turps, nail varnish remover WD40 etc as these are likely to damage the leather finish and make final repairs difficult or impossible.

Once the paint is dry there is nothing that can safely be used without damaging the leather and it is best to contact your insurance company or a good leather technician.

Trained technicians throughout the UK can be found by contacting LTT on 01423 881027.
