Is it possible not to have a grout line on my granite tiles as i want them to look like one solid piece?
Question:can i just butt them together on the floor ?
Answers:
while you cant totally hide all the seams a tight seam can be done with grinding dust or you can use a resin to match the tile as claose as possible. There will be tell tale lines that are a different color. Tile are really hard to disguise and personally i think that using a standard grout joint on tile look so much better that trying to make a solid peice out of tile. Take a trip to a local shop and ask for a sample panel or go online and take a look. Dal-tile .com has a pretty good site.
Granite tiles generally have a small bevel on the top edges. Depending on the color it might be possible to do what you're talking about, although it would almost have to be black. A contractor friend butts the pieces together but then grouts the bevel and it's very difficult to tell they're not one piece.
When they installed my kitchen counter tops (two slabs of granite) they butted them together with a very small grout line (approx. 1/8inch). They somehow used the granite stone grindings in the grout so the color matched up perfectly. Although, it kinda appears as one stone, but the seam isn't as shiny as the stone when you are staring straight down.
Good Luck
You can do butt joints but should use the tiniest bit of resin between them as insurance that water or other liquids won't seep between them causing problems to the sub-surface beneath.
Use non-sanded grout in a color that matches the granite, and do a hair-line grout line (about 1/16th inch)
