Soundproof insulation?
Question:does anyone know where I can find a type of insulation that will make my bedroom soundproof? My brother had some when he turned his basement into a recording studio, but i can't get a hold of him to ask. If you know what i'm talking about, tell me what it's called and where i can find it. thanks so much!

Neither of the previous two answers are very good. Resisting the transmission of sound is through two mechanisms. One is to add mass, weight, that resists the vibration that is sound. The other is to eliminate pathways for sound to travel easily. A half inch of foam insulation will make no noticeable difference. Foaming the stud bays will reduce pathways and make an improvement but not a big one. There is no such thing as soundproofing short of building an anechoic chamber which is cost prohibitive. There are a number of things you can do to help though. One easy and inexpensive one is to close up cracks. Caulk around baseboards, door frames, and any other direct sound path. You might weatherstrip the door. If you are willing to open the wall, you can add sound resisting blanket insulation available at home centers. Better would be to add something heavy, massive, like another layer of drywall. A difficult but expensive approach would be to add a second set of studs inside the wall so that each side of the wall would be attached to studs that do not connect to the other side. Adding z channels between studs and drywall reduces sound transmission. Replacing the drywall with concrete block is probably the most sound resisting but may require added structure to carry the weight.
Half inch syrofoam insulation will do the trick. It comes in 8 ft. by 4 ft. sheets and will have to be paneled over
try expanding foam thro well spaced holes in your plaster board leave for 2 to 3 days then trim of excess and redecorate
