What are some must-haves for dorm rooms?

You definitely need something to prop your bed up on. That creates so much extra room for your junk in your room.
mini-frig is a definite must have. If you are short on room try sticking it under your desk.
Otherwise invest in some good ear plugs (you never know when you are going to want to tune everything else out).
Decor is important, make it homey. Steal some of your favorite stuff from home, like a lamp or picture frame. It will make you feel more comfortable when home sickness creeps in. Trust me it will.
Bedding, of course! A fan if there is no air conditioning. A mini-fridge/microwave combo, a computer w/tv viewing & DVD viewing capabilities, most kids have a cell phone so it's not really necessary to have the university dorm phone turned on.
Fans, microwave, fridge, area rug, posters, snacks, toaster oven, cleaning products, broom & dustpan, trash can.
DON'T bring anything that you dont want spilled on, ruined, and/or stolen.
You need a good study light for your desk as well as one for your bed; dictionary, thesaurus, lots of paper, pens, pencils, general supplies so you don't have to keep running out; extension cords; room deodorant; laundry basket and the products to clean your clothes with; flashlight; biggie towels and toiletries, just to name a few.
If your college has a summer orientation, go. They should be providing you with a general list.
Check out places like Bed, Bath and Beyond/Linen 'n' Things. They often have lists available. Besides, they set up whole areas for the school bound kid.
