How much should I tip construction workers?
Question:I am having an independent contractor doing some tile work in my house, something like 1000 square feet, and it is a lot of work, he has a crew of 2 guys that worked with him for 3 days and did mst of the hard worker and today I had 2 more guys coming here to install base boards, how much should tip them?
Answers:
No need to tip.
If they were still working, you might offer them a soda or water, but that would be about the extent of it.
If you really want to give away money, I will email you my address. A check will be fine.
Why should you tip them? They are being paid for their work by their employer. I don't get tipped for bookkeeping - I get paid by my employer. If I do extra work for fundraising events, I don't get tipped by the people I help - I get paid by my employer...
They are getting paid for their work and they will not be expecting a tip. I may suggest that instead you buy pizza for lunch, have soft drinks and water in a cooler for them to help themselves while working.
I have also given some workers a case of beer, but at the END of the day, not for lunch!
I would not tip them. I would buy lunch for them - cold sodas and maybe a big bucket of KFC chicken and mashed potatoes or a pizza or even if you made them something good like cookies - but they really aren't a profession that gets tipped (besides - 20% of whatever you're paying them would be a heck of a big tip, right?). It is very good that you are generous, though, because there are so many people in the world that need it.
Very thoughtful of you im prety sure that they are doing a good job. i would wantto tip them also but after listening to allthese comments makes you want to change your mine right? Well just buy them lunch like a really good lunch and
provide them drinks and at the end pg the day buy each one a 12 pack a beer and believe me!! they will be happy very happy!
While you are under no obligation to tip they are almost always welcomed. I usually base it on the work being done for an easier job about $5 per day per person for a more difficult job up to $10. I would also tip them on the morning of the last day of work. This will also assure that they clean-up well and give an extra effort when finishing. Hope this helps.
I would say $20 is the minimum.
As painters, we got tips, from $10 to $500.
No need to tip. Seriously! They are being paid well for their labor. If you wish to do something, maybe fix them a snack...but don't be suprised if they don't eat it.
What they would REALLY appreciate...a phone call to the owner or their supervisor to tell him/her what an outstanding job they have done.
They are getting paid by the contractor.Just make sure they have water or something cold to drink.I have never tipped anyone one for job.
